"Nothing is more aromatic than Rougui; nothing is more mellow than Shui Xian."

Amid the soaring popularity of Rougui in the Wuyi rock tea circle, many tea lovers mistakenly believe that Rougui has a higher yield than Shui Xian. In fact, Shui Xian still takes the lead in total output. However, most Shui Xian bushes grow outside the core Zhengyan producing area and are scattered across various mountain sites.

As a result, Zhengyan Shui Xian is scarce, and Shui Xian from premium mountain sites commands a premium price. Today, Tongxinshe Teahouse is honored to bring you a cost-effective Zhengyan High-Clump Shui Xian crafted by Master Gao Peng, inviting you to unlock the mellow orchid fragrance of this exceptional Wuyi rock tea.

This Shui Xian hails from the core Zhengyan producing area — Wugui Peak.

The mountain site is the soul of Wuyi rock tea. Traditionally, Wuyi rock tea producing areas are classified into four grades: Zhengyan (core rock), Banyan (semi-rock), Zhoucha (riverbank tea), and Waishancha (outer mountain tea), with Zhengyan being the most prestigious.

Nestled in the southern part of Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area, Wugui Peak boasts a humid climate and abundant rainfall, with lush green peaks and ridges creating an idyllic environment for tea cultivation. The Shui Xian grown here exudes a distinct orchid fragrance and delivers a mellow, smooth taste, perfectly embodying the unique charm of Zhengyan terroir.

What makes this tea even more special is its distinctive character derived from the age of the high-clump tea bushes.

The flavor profile of Shui Xian rock tea is closely linked to the age of the tea bushes. Older bushes produce tea with a more pronounced clump rhythm, a refreshing cool aftertaste, and a rich, layered mellow flavor.

High-Clump Shui Xian refers to bushes aged between 30 and 60 years — more mature than young bushes yet more vibrant than ancient ones. The Shui Xian launched this time comes from tea bushes 40 to 50 years old, growing at an altitude of over 500 meters on mountain summits shrouded in mist all year round. This environment allows the bushes to accumulate abundant nutrients, resulting in a tea of exceptional quality.

Shui Xian is celebrated for its dominant "water-like" smoothness. Its signature orchid fragrance, unlike the bold and assertive aroma of Rougui, is subtle and restrained — half infused in the tea liquor, half lingering on the teacup walls, like a beauty veiled behind a pipa, exuding elegance and grace.

The dry tea leaves are slender, tightly rolled, and emit a delicate, understated floral aroma. When brewed with boiling water, a gentle wave of orchid fragrance wafts out, not overwhelming but deeply comforting. The liquor glows with a bright orange-red hue, smooth and silky on the palate, with the orchid fragrance seamlessly blending into the mellow tea, infusing every sip with its essence.

Take a sip, and you’ll be greeted by a harmonious mellow flavor with a prominent orchid fragrance and almost no astringency. Compared with Shui Xian from non-Zhengyan areas, this tea offers a richer, more authentic texture, with floral notes and rock charm intertwining beautifully. As you savor it slowly, a subtle coolness spreads through your throat, followed by a long-lasting sweet aftertaste — a true testament to the gentle elegance of High-Clump Shui Xian.
