For tea lovers familiar with Tongmu black tea, premium wild tea materials sourced from renowned core areas inside Tongmu Pass are always extremely hard to acquire. Today, Tongxin She is delighted to present a rare fine black tea that is fully pre-ordered before official release every year — Tongmu Lanyun.
Tongmu Lanyun is crafted from native wild Qizhong tea bushes deep in the mountains. It is named for the prominent, elegant orchid fragrance lingering in the tea liquor. The tea trees grow in Guageng at an altitude of 1,200 meters within Tongmu Pass, Wuyi Mountain, located in the core of the national nature reserve. Dense ancient trees cover the land, shrouded in perennial mist, with a marked temperature difference between day and night and humus-rich soil. Growing wild with minimal human intervention, the unique primeval environment nurtures its pure, full-bodied mountain charm.
Wild Qizhong bushes yield limited production, and high-quality raw materials from the high-altitude core Guageng terroir are exceptionally scarce. In previous years, this tea was fully reserved by seasoned tea enthusiasts before launch and sold out immediately once available. This year, to offer our friends at Tongxin She a chance to taste it, I traveled in person to Tongmu to source the tea, supervise harvesting and confirm raw material reservations. With extensive coordination through my brother, I managed to secure only 5 kilograms to share with fellow tea admirers.
Every batch from Tongxin She undergoes strict personal quality control. From locating wild tea bushes deep in the mountains and picking fresh leaves, to withering, fermentation and refined sorting, every process is carefully inspected. No blended external materials are used, preserving the authentic terroir character and honoring the precious essence of wild Qizhong.
The dry tea features tight, glossy dark strips, with subtle orchid fragrance detectable upon gentle sniffing. When boiling water is poured into the gaiwan, bright, clean floral and honey aromas rise gracefully, refined and unpretentious. The liquor is smooth and sweet on the palate. The opening notes deliver vibrant floral and honey sweetness, followed by restrained woody hints and subtle moss undertones. The layers unfold gently and harmoniously without any off-notes. Most memorable of all is the lasting refreshing coolness unique to ancient high mountain forests that remains in the throat, paired with slow-developing sweet aftertaste — the signature wild character of high-altitude wild tea from Tongmu Pass.
Unlike ordinary black teas on the market with faint, superficial sweetness, Tongmu Lanyun carries fragrance integrated deeply into the liquor with rich wild charm. The elegant orchid scent blends with forest notes, balancing richness and refreshing coolness. It is perfect for peaceful solo sipping or refined hospitality for guests.
Tasting specification: individually packed sachets, 5 grams per sachet for easy and precise brewing.
Only 5 kilograms of this rare batch are available. Hard to obtain in past years, this limited stock is a rare opportunity. Lovers of authentic high-altitude wild Tongmu black tea and elegant wild orchid notes should not miss Tongmu Lanyun.
