Zisha (purple clay) is the most gentle and elegant symbol of traditional Chinese tea culture. On the tea table of every seasoned tea lover, there is always a purple clay teapot. With its unique texture — breathable yet watertight — it perfectly preserves the authentic character of tea, bringing out clear liquor color, rich aroma, and long-lasting taste. It is an irreplaceable treasure for tea enthusiasts.
A truly fully hand-made purple clay teapot is shaped entirely by hand, without any molds from start to finish. The craftsman shapes the clay with his hands, then repeatedly trims and polishes it until the form is neat, the lines smooth, and the teapot round, glossy, and seamlessly unified. This craft is forged through time and patience: long production cycles, extremely low success rates, making each hand-made purple clay teapot a rare and precious find.
Today, Tongxin She Teahouse is honored to present a collector’s treasure:
The 200-Year Aged Purple Clay Shuiping Teapot, handcrafted by Master Hui Xiangyun, the 15th‑generation heir of Hui Mengchen.
Capacity: 120cc — small, delicate, and infused with a century of craftsmanship from a legendary purple clay family.
Hui Xiangyun was born into a renowned teapot-making family in Yixing, and is the 15th‑generation descendant of the great Ming Dynasty teapot master Hui Mengchen. He learned the art from his father at an early age, and later studied under Master He Daohong, a national master of ceramic art. With solid skills and deep understanding of purple clay, he is praised by collectors as a “Folk Master of Purple Clay”.
The great writer Jin Yong inscribed for him:
“Hui Xiangyun’s Purple Clay Treasures”.
Master Qi Gong wrote:
“Xiangyun’s Pottery Art, Reaching New Heights”.
Since the 1990s, deeply concerned about the over-exploitation of purple clay ore, he has devoted himself to collecting top-grade raw materials, earning him the affectionate nickname “The Clay Collector” among professionals. His works excel in material selection, elegant shape, and exquisite craftsmanship, with every detail carefully refined, offering outstanding artistic and collection value.
This Shuiping teapot embodies decades of his dedication. It is made from his personally collected rare 200-year aged purple clay, matured over time, gentle and fine in texture, and extremely valuable. At 120cc, it is ideal for solo tea enjoyment or intimate gatherings with close friends. It fits comfortably in the hand and allows precise control over brewing strength, bringing out the purest flavor of every tea.
For true tea lovers, a fine teapot is a companion on the tea table and a timeless collection. This 200-year aged purple clay teapot is more than a brewing tool — it is a legacy of purple clay art, and a sincere devotion to tea and clay from the “Clay Collector” himself.
