Chinese tea culture stretches back thousands of years. Based on different production methods, teas are divided into six main categories. Each craft creates a unique flavour shaped by local mountains, soil and climate.
Tongxin She Teahouse proudly presents this six-tea tasting set. One gift box contains the six fundamental crafts of Chinese tea. I travelled personally to every tea-growing region, hand-picked the leaves and took part in the production process. Every sachet carries the spirit of its land, inviting you to explore the endless charm of oriental tea.
Green Tea · Dongting Biluochun | 3g per sachet
In April, I travelled to Dongting Mountain in Suzhou to harvest and select tender buds. Green tea uses fixation to stop oxidation and preserve the freshness of spring. The twisted tea leaves are covered in fine white hairs. Once brewed, it releases bright, lively aroma with sweet floral and fruit notes. Each sip captures the fresh vitality of spring by the lakes of Jiangnan.
White Tea · Baihao Yinzhen (Silver Needle) | 3g per sachet
Sourced from Taimu Mountain, only the finest tender single buds are selected. White tea follows the simplest craft: no pan-firing, no rolling. Leaves wilt naturally under sunlight with gentle oxidation. Buds are covered in silvery down. The pale golden liquor is soft and clean, with a lingering sweet aftertaste, representing the oriental beauty of nature.
Yellow Tea · Junshan Yinzhen | 3g per sachet
Grown on Junshan Island in Hunan, yellow tea is one of the rarest among the six categories. It features the unique “yellowing” process, which transforms the tea slowly under mild humidity. The elegant buds stand upright in your teacup after brewing. The pale yellow liquor tastes mellow and sweet, a precious tea hard to come by.
Oolong Tea · Wuyi Da Hong Pao | 8.3g per sachet
I visited Wuyi Mountain to join the harvest and production. Oolong is semi-oxidized. Shaking and bruising the leaves build rich layers of aroma. Da Hong Pao carries the famous “rock rhyme”. Its powerful fragrance unfolds step by step. The full-bodied liquor blends rocky minerality and floral notes, the classic spirit of Wuyi rock tea.
Black Tea · Tongmuguan Lapsang Souchong | 3g per sachet
From Tongmuguan in Wuyi Mountain, the birthplace of world black tea. I joined the picking and making. Black tea undergoes full oxidation, developing beautiful floral and fruity sweetness. The reddish liquor is smooth and gentle on the palate. It was also the first Chinese black tea introduced to the western world.
Dark Tea · Aged 1980 Ripe Pu’er | 8g per sachet
This is a treasured aged tea from Tongxin She Teahouse. Dark tea uses pile fermentation and can be stored for decades to mature. This 1980 ripe Pu’er has rested for many years. It has deep, quiet aged aroma, silky thick liquor and warm taste. You can taste the passage of time in every cup.
One box, six teas, six crafts, six landscapes. You do not need to travel far to understand the six major styles of Chinese tea. From bright spring freshness to deep aged tranquility, from simple natural processing to complex rock flavour. This is an oriental tea journey waiting for you to explore and savour.
