I’m Jon from Tongxin She Teahouse. I have long sought tea vessels that embody both character and practicality. A well-suited gaiwan serves as a gentle bridge between tea liquor and the tea lover. Today, I am delighted to share with fellow tea enthusiasts this Sauce Glaze Gold & Silver Inlaid Orchid Courtyard Two-Piece Gaiwan.
Orchids grow in the courtyard; they do not seek favour with gaudy beauty, but captivate with subtle, lingering fragrance.
This vessel draws inspiration from Yun Shouping’s Nine Orchids. Adopting his boneless painting style for orchids, the elegant orchid forms are rendered onto the ceramic surface. Craftsmen inherit the traditional gold and silver inlay craft: genuine gold outlines the orchid branches, and pure silver sculpts the blossoms. A cluster of cymbidiums stretches gracefully, dotted with scattered fallen petals. Light creates subtle gradients of shade, as if morning dew rests upon the flowers, fresh and refined.
The body is glazed with mellow sauce glaze. The knob of the lid and the base of the bowl are finished in dark ink tone, creating harmonious visual balance. The glaze surface is lustrous and even. Meticulously crafted from thin porcelain, this gracefully shaped two-piece gaiwan is beginner-friendly and less likely to scald hands.
It measures 9.5 cm in rim diameter and 7.8 cm in total height, with a full capacity of 150 ml. Three engraved calibration marks inside mark volumes of 50 ml, 80 ml and 100 ml, enabling precise control over tea dosage and water volume for every brew.
The plain white interior allows you to clearly observe the colour of tea infusion. Orchids painted on the exterior exude quiet charm. The harmonious blend of gold, silver and sauce glaze delivers timeless elegance.
