Among the myriad shapes of Yixing purple clay teapots, the Dezhong shape stands as an enduring classic in the heart of every tea lover. With its square, noble form embodying the demeanor of a gentleman and its delicate clay holding the rhythm of千年 tea rhyme, it serves as a benchmark in plain-style teapots, perfectly balancing aesthetics with practicality.
Personally selecting from Yixing, Tongxin Tea House is proud to present the Lao Zini (Old Purple Mud) Dizhiqing Dezhong Pot, handcrafted by the talented National Assistant Industrial Art Master Huang Xueting. With only 3 pieces available, each pot is a testament to the artisan’s dedication to the ultimate craft of purple clay, a true treasure for your tea table.
Master Huang is a distinguished Yixing artist with over a decade of profound experience in purple clay craftsmanship. Inheriting the traditional artisanal spirit, she personally oversees every step—from selecting and aging the raw clay to hand-throwing the pot and refining its surface. Rejecting mass-produced and chemically treated clays, she only creates pots that stand the test of time and tea appreciation.
This Dezhong pot is a masterpiece of her craft. The shape is meticulously precise: the body features sharp, elegant lines; the lid fits seamlessly with the rim, ensuring excellent airtightness; the spout delivers a clear, unobstructed pour without dripping; the handle is ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip; and the small, round knob is easy to lift. Every detail reflects the essence of Dezhong—graceful, dignified, and supremely practical, showcasing the master’s exceptional skill.
The clay chosen for this pot is the raw Lao Zini (Old Purple Mud) Dizhiqing, carefully mined by Tongxin Tea House from the deepest layers of the Yixing mine. As one of the most premium clays, Dizhiqing is rare and naturally aged for years, boasting a rich, sandy texture and exceptional warmth. The finished pot displays a deep, rich purple-brown hue with a subtle, jade-like luster. With continued use, it develops a beautiful, patinated finish, growing more exquisite with time. Its superior breathability fully enhances the natural flavors of the tea, making it a legendary clay perfect for brewing and enjoyment.
The 150cc capacity is the golden size for a Chinese tea table. Ideal for solo tea sessions, it allows for precise tea leaf ratios, bringing out the authentic taste perfectly—great for daily work or quiet reading time. For two people sharing, the flow rate is balanced, ensuring the tea stays warm during conversation. Its compact size fits effortlessly on any tea tray, making it a versatile and essential companion for any tea lover.
The Dezhong shape and Dizhiqing clay make this pot supremely versatile, particularly excellent for brewing heavily roasted and aged teas such as Wuyi Rock Tea (Da Hong Pao, Rou Gui). The clay’s breathability amplifies the tea’s unique “rock bone flower fragrance” and softens the roasted notes, creating a richer, smoother brew. It is equally perfect for Pu-erh (raw and ripe), where the clay refines the aged notes and deepens the flavor; Old White Tea, where the shape’s heat retention brings out the medicinal and jujube fragrances; Phoenix Dancong, enhancing the floral and fruity aromas; and Black Teas (Jin Jun Mei, Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong), balancing the sweetness for a more mellow taste.
Each of Master Huang’s handcrafted Dezhong pots takes nearly a month to create. The production is fully hand-controlled, resulting in a very low yield rate. Tongxin Tea House is honored to offer these 3 limited pieces, each accompanied by the artist’s signed certificate of authenticity, making it an excellent choice for personal use, collection, or as a thoughtful gift.
