At the 2022 Xiling Spring Auction, an exquisite early Qing Dynasty red clay treasure, the Aili Teapot marked Chunquantang, rivalling the famed Mengchen teapots, stunned all collectors.
Despite its tiny 100ml capacity, the teapot boasts elegant contours and serene charm. It was finally hammered down at 1.035 million RMB, proving its extraordinary status among antique purple clay wares.
Though captivated by this million-yuan antique masterpiece, I could not acquire the original piece. Having spent years in the purple clay trade, I resolved to recreate its timeless grace so I could hold and appreciate such a fine vessel in my own hands.
The ethereal spirit of an ancient teapot can never be copied casually. Ordinary craftsmen may replicate its outer shape, yet fail to capture the relaxed, refined temperament of an antique. I refused to rush into poor imitations and patiently waited for a master craftsman who could faithfully preserve the antique charm.
The original Chunquantang Aili teapot has a distinct style, entirely different from the popular Mengchen teapots of the Qing era. Its soft, flowing lines form a poised and tranquil silhouette. As a petite gongfu tea vessel, it carries the refined elegance of literati art, revealing more subtle beauty upon every viewing.
Master Wang Yajun excels at capturing the soul of antique teapots. He strictly recreated the original shape with fully handcrafted techniques. While retaining the classical charm of Qing antiques, he refined the craftsmanship to enhance practicality for daily tea brewing.
