DESCRIPTION: A fine, handmade Chai Shao tea jar with a special metal tin cover for an excellent seal. The glaze color of the jar is originally a natural gray, which is then fired for three days and three nights inside the firing pine kiln. In fact, the charm of firewood burning lies in that every glaze color in a kiln is resigned to fate and truly based on luck.
MATERIAL: For a fully handmade wood-fired ceramic (Chai Shao) to be made, it takes seven days of processing of the old mud. It is then followed by one day of mud drilling, one day of billet drawing, two days of billet airing, two hours of billet repairing, five hours of plain burning, eight hours of abrasive glaze burning, one hour of bottom filling. Furthermore, it takes 20 hours of full kiln exposure, 60 hours of firing in the kiln, and another 60 hours to cool. The excellent hand-painted mud is then burned in an electric kiln to perfection for 12 hours, only after being hand-painted by a skilled artist. Overall, a total of 412 hours of labor with a mere 50% of the final output from the kiln passing the final inspection. Indeed, this a piece that relies heavily on luck and dedication of the artisans!
