In the long river of purple clay art, the birth of some artifacts is destined to be a lengthy dialogue with time. The "Carambola Teapot" from Tongxin She Teahouse is such a work that embodies craftsmanship and time.
This "Carambola Teapot", based on the classic style of Hui Mengchen from the Qing Dynasty, is fully handcrafted by Wang Yufei, a rising star in square-shaped pottery. It is made of precious small coal kiln Zhu clay and has a compact 70cc capacity, yet it contains enormous craftsmanship challenges.
Product Name: Carambola Teapot (Yang Tao Hu)
• Artist: Wang Yufei
• Material: Small Coal Kiln Zhu Ni (Red Clay)
• Capacity: 70cc
• Style: Fully Handmade Hexagonal Shape
The "Carambola Teapot" is a variation based on the Siting style, adopting a hexagonal shape, quite similar to a carambola. Its production requires forming using the inlaid cylinder method, which is a great test of skill. Six clay pieces are connected in sequence, with undulating ribs and slightly concave body clay pieces. The spout, knob, lid, and handle are all made using this method. Viewed from above, their outlines extend layer by layer like starlight, with ingenious conception, thin and exquisite body, and rigorous craftsmanship, making it unique among square-shaped pottery.
For this reason, the customization of this batch of "Carambola Teapots" by Tongxin She Teahouse took a full year. In the end, only three finished products were obtained. Each one exhibits a bright, straight, and graceful masculinity, with clear edges and corners perfectly shaping the geometric beauty of square-shaped pottery. It is both a tribute and imitation to the ancestors, and also incorporates Wang Yufei's personal thoughts and insights, reviving the former glory of this shape with more exquisite craftsmanship.
Looking at this teapot, one immediately feels filled with the beauty of geometric symmetry, fully embodying the way of square and circle. The shape is ancient but not rigid, exquisitely made, regular and pleasing to the eye, without seeking coquetry. Also, due to the excessive difficulty in production, it will no longer be recreated in the future.
These three "Carambola Teapots" are undoubtedly excellent for making tea and collecting, and even more rare treasures of purple clay art. Currently, they are only available for limited sale on the official website of Tongxin She Teahouse (www.txs-tea.com). Act quickly if you want to purchase.
